Gastroenterology Associates was formed in 1978. At the time, Community Hospitals Indianapolis had only one hospital, at 16th Street and Ritter Avenue. Over the years the practice has grown substantially and now provides full-time coverage at Community Hospital East, Community Hospital North and The Indiana Heart Hospital, with offices conveniently located near these hospitals.

The practice consists of eight board certified physicians, two board certified physician assistants and two nurse practitioners along with a large clinical and administrative support staff. Drs. David Bash, David Hollander, Joseph Henderson and Toyia Stevenson along with Catherine Le, PA-C and Nurse Practitioner Cathy Cooper provide care at Community Hospital East and at our east-side office. Drs. Eldred MacDonell, Steve Carlson, Dan Ciaccia and Matthew Harrison along with Lauren Waugh, PA-C and Nurse Practitioner Shelly Salter provide care at Community Hospital North, The Indiana Heart Hospital and our north-side office.

We provide comprehensive evaluation and management for a wide variety of digestive and liver diseases, and our physicians are highly skilled in techniques of diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy. Our goal is to provide you with timely, compassionate, high quality care combined with the convenience of an efficient office and ambulatory Endoscopy center for outpatient services.

We utilize Community Hospital for ancillary lab and radiology testing, certain outpatient endoscopic procedures and for inpatient medical care. While most of our patients are referred by their primary care physician or other specialty physicians, we do accept patients without referral. We do, however, encourage you to consult with your primary care physician whenever possible before making an appointment with us. This improves the line of communication between you, your physicians and us, and can enhance the quality of your care and improve the ultimate outcome of your visits with us.
